I would REALLY like to reblog this, or re-whatever it -- if you don't mind. We had no legitimate reason to go into Afghanistan in the first place. We don't have to like the place, but NOT liking it doesn't mean we should declare war -- as if war solves every problem. No one ever explained why we went in, what we intended to do while we were there, or at what point we would consider it a victory, or recognize defeat. Americans do not recognize defeat. We think we have to WIN every conflict. I think, by my reckoning, we have been in continuous war since I was in my early teens. There was a very brief period between Korea and Vietnam -- and since then, we have been fighting somewhere. When we don't "win," we usually declare a victory and leave (Vietnam, obviously) -- or we slink out of the country and pretend nothing happened (who, us?). In this case, Biden actually declared a loss -- and of course the Republicans are outraged. WE CAN'T LOSE! AMERICA NEVER LOSES!

Yes. We do. And if we keep doing the same thing while thinking the end result will be different? I suppose there will be a lot of losses. We've had a fair number already and at the rate we start wars, while the earth falls apart, we can ALSO spend all our resources on pointless wars. Wow. We really are such WINNERS.

But if you will allow it, I would really like to post this. It's good and deserves more visibility.
