If you like my stuff, you should be reading it at The Garden of Memory.
Catch up with me at my new blog and email newsletter.
It’s been a while since I posted anything here on Substack. However, I have noticed that occasionally I still get subscribers and sign-ups for this newsletter. This message is primarily for the newcomers: thank you, and if you’re interested in my work, I encourage you to sign up—instead of here—at The Garden of Memory.
At the new blog, you’ll get a steady stream of interesting articles on historical and cultural topics. For example, recently I did a post on the global warming-fueled air quality disaster in the U.S. Northeast, as compared to New England’s famous “Dark Day” of 1780. For paid-tier subscribers, I did a deep dive into the curious history of the Watergate site—the place where the famous 1972 burglary took place, but highlighting the long history of that particular location going back way before Nixon and the Plumbers. I also tell my readers where they can find interesting history books online for free, and update them on my latest books and historical videos. Essentially, The Garden of Memory is what this blog used to be, only better.
The Garden also has a paid tier where you can support my work financially. Paid tier subscribers get in-depth articles that the free tier doesn’t see; however, a free subscription will still put a lot of really cool material into your inbox usually a couple of times a week.
I moved over to the Garden (hosted on Ghost) in February of this year, 2023, and I’m very pleased with how it has turned out since then. If you’re interested in why I changed over—including why I feel Substack has some problems that make it a place I don’t feel I can be anymore—you can get it all at this post.
You also may be interested in the new history book I have coming out next week (June 20, 2023), The 50 Most Important Things in History. It’s on Kindle and a short, two-hour read on the greatest hits of world history from 3.7 million years ago to the 21st century. It’s $3, which is what most people who have contributed to my Ko-fi (thanks!) have pledged in the past.
Thank you so much for supporting me and reading my stuff. I hope to see you all over at the Garden of Memory.
